Finisher The city of Baxter invites you to take part in this exciting triathlon. The Lakes Country Triathlon continues to build into one of the best triathlons in the state.

The race begins with a ½-mile swim in Whipple Lake (known for its calm waters), then switches to a 17-mile bike through the rolling hills surrounding the Baxter/Brainerd Lakes area, and ends with a very flat 3.8 mile run through a quiet residential area. The Lakes Country Triathlon is a great race, be it your first or fiftieth!

The race is limited to 400 entries, and race day registration is not available. Registration confirmation will be available online and via email.

Proceeds raised from this event will go toward local fund-raising efforts including the improvement of city parks in Baxter. In three years over $3,700 in event proceeds have been used to purchase parks equipment.

About the Race

The course consists of a 1/2-mile swim, a 17-mile bike ride, and a four-mile run. All cyclists must observe Minnesota traffic laws. Bike certified hard-shelled helmets are required. Drafting is prohibited.

Because of the positive response from the 2007 participants we will continue with some of the things added in 2007.

There will be a Clydesdale and Athena Divisions. These divisions are for the larger triathlete. Clydesdale division is for males over 200 lbs and the Athena division is for females over 145 lbs.

We will continue using the 2007 run course for future years. Check out the course map for run course details. The official course length is 3.8 miles and is very flat.

ask a coachWe have added an "Ask the Coach" feature this year. If you have any questions related to competing in a triathlon, click here and ask away! Very basic or more detailed questions are all welcomed and will be answered by a USAT Certified Coach.

We will also be hosting a Swim Clinic at Whipple Beach for anyone interested in doing a pre-swim of the course and getting any last minute advice from Jason Digman of Dig It Triathlon Training. Time of this clinic will be announced on this website.
