A Worlds Record was set at the 2005 Earth Day Half Marathon. John Keston, 80, of McMinnville, Oregon ran the Half Marathon course in a time of 1:39:28.
In ideal running conditions the 2005 Earth Day Half Marathon turned out to be a record setting day on the USATF certified course. Besides course records being re-written by Ryan Meissen and Brandy Erholtz, John Keston set the Worlds Record in the 80-84 year old age group. Officially the record is still pending while the powers-to-be check for all the proper paper work.
Keston came to St. Cloud with the intention of making an attempt for the record. He had some competition in his age group from Lloyd Young of Pine City, MN, who also has national recognition in the 80-84 age group. Keston not only set the worlds record at the event, but the former music professor sang the national anthem just prior to the start of the race.
